My Story
My interest in music began when I was a baby. My siblings shared with me how I had to have music on to go to sleep. Whenever the music stopped I would wake up for someone to turn it back on. Both of my parents are musically inclined-my father on guitar and mother on piano. All of my siblings also are musically inclined. I taught myself how to play piano, but later I began learning the saxophone in the Sixth Grade band and I continue playing it today.
During my Middle School and High School years I won various competitions and also received a leadership award which was the highest award given to a band member. After High School I attended Blinn College in my native town of Brenham, Texas. While attending college there I played in the jazz band. I decided to continue my music education at Houston Christian University (formerly Houston Baptist University) and performed in both jazz and symphonic bands. I earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance in Saxophone. I also have an EC-12 Music Certification from the University of Houston. I have taught music education for over 25 years. I currently teach Elementary Music in Cy-Fair Independent School District.
I play many genres of music and challenge myself to learn new styles. Some of the genres I specialize in are Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Soul, Inspirational, Bollywood, and Pop Music.
Recently, I recorded and released original music which is available on most streaming platforms. The songs I released and currently available are “Accidental Melody” and “Expressions”. I am working on another original song that will be released soon so stay tuned…
I am a featured soloist on Ron Washington’s “Kruzin’ With Karla” and most recently released “Coyote Funk”.
I have been nominated twice for Best Jazz Performer – Female with the Black Music Awards Houston.
I was a featured artist at the evolution for Juneteenth at The Brenham Heritage Museum in my hometown of Brenham, Texas. I was an Opening Act for the RefresHER Experience-Houston with Kathy Taylor.
I performed in Exuma Bahamas at the Regatta Gospel Concert and performed for the Building Bridges to The Bahamas & Beyond International Radio Broadcast musical in Freeport, Bahamas. I have performed for the Texas Association of Local WIC Directors.
I have previously performed and still perform on occasion with The SI Band, a National award winning group under the direction of Ronnie Garrett, musical director for Tyler Perry. I have also performed with musical artists such as: Bobby Lyle, Frank McComb, Ryan Kilgore, Kyle Turner, Dean James, Michael Ward, Althea Rene, Reshard Baham, Ronnie Coleman, Tamesha Pruett-Ray, Barrett Phillips, Ralph Price, and Ron Washington.
I provide music for private and corporate events including weddings, cocktail hours, receptions, birthday celebrations, and many other social events. I give credit to God for providing me with the gift of music. My inspiration comes from my family, friends, and many other musical giants. My goal is to inspire people all over the world with my love for music.
